Residence Criteria for Non-GCC Citizens (Gulf Cooperation Council)

  • Establish a Free Zone Company (100 per cent ownership)
  • Lease a business unit (we have very reasonable options)
  • Open a UAE business bank account
  • The average set-up costs for a free zone company including business license and the required business unit (office) giving you 100 per cent ownership are US$ 8,800 to 11,900
  • After 12 months the business owner has to renew the business license and office lease on an annual basis. The average costs for the renewal and office are USD 7,700 to 8,800 per annum
  • Once the company has been established the owner can apply for a business/residence visa
  • The number of visas will be determined by the size of the business unit
  • The above example we have given includes 2 visas for 2 businesspeople
  • Each businessperson can in addition apply for an extra visa for their spouse/children
  • The average visa issue fees range between US$1,100 to 2,500 depending on the emirate the company is established in
  • The visa validity is in general 3 years and thereafter a renewal visa has to be obtained

Residence Visa Procedure

  • Once the company is operable the owner/s can apply for a visa
  • The applicant needs a special entry visa when entering the UAE which will be deposited for collection at the airport by an agent – this visa is necessary to apply and open a new immigration file
  • The applicant needs to undergo a brief medical check-up
  • A visit to the immigration authorities is required which includes the taking of fingerprints and photographs to issue the new Emirates ID Card which is the door opener to all services, opening of bank accounts and other banking services and the issue of credit cards
  • After 6 months the new resident is eligible to apply for a mortgage should the purchase of a home be preferred
  • During the time of the visa processing the applicant/s has/have to stay in the UAE for approximately 8-10 days and submit their passport/s to the immigration authorities for visa stamping purposes
  • After around 10 days the applicant/s receive their visa/s and the passport is returned
  • The Emirates ID Card is then delivered after 10-14 days depending on the emirate
  • The validity of visa and emirates id is generally 3 years, employees have to renew their visas every 2 years
